India is one of the world’s fastest growing economies. With the boom time in the Indian
industry has also come the need for skilled workforce. Currently the skill gap and
availability of workforce to bridge this skill gap  is one of the biggest threats to the
country’s progress. All high-growth segments of the industry - Automobiles, Retail,
Software Development, Media, Healthcare, Hospitality, etc. are facing a skill gap
challenge and the need for skilled workforce is rising.
 To cater to the growing needs of these industry segments, University of Delhi in
collaboration with CII (Confederation of Indian Industry) has launched certificate
programs for the students of Delhi University.  These programs aim to enable-students
to acquire functional skills required in the specific domains.
The focus on job-oriented skills is brought about using advanced delivery
methodologies including case studies, interactions  with domain experts, case
simulations and real-life hands-on experience. The duration of each course shall be six
months. The 4 – month class- room training will be followed by 2 - months of internship
period with the relevant industry. Post completion  of the internship, the deserving
students will be assisted for placement offers with suitable organisations.  
The students taking these courses will be eligible to join relevant sectors of industry and
have better chances of employability. Based on their performance during the
compulsory internship with the industry, chances of employability may increase
manifold. Besides, some reimbursement of fee in the form of stipend may be given to
deserving candidates- during internship.

 COURSES:
There are three certificate programs, jointly certified by CII and the University of Delhi
being offered at the Campus of Open Learning. (The  course cost includes students’
learning material.) 1. Software Application Development
The course equips the learner about the latest software tools and technologies. This
course covers Java and .NET to create packaged or customized applications in the
software development domain. Along with these software applications, the course
covers professional skills like customer service, personal grooming, English
conversation and work productivity tools.
This course provides career opportunities in programming, testing, database
management or website development.
* Total cost of this course: Rs.24, 500/-
2. Retail Management
This course is one of the most popular courses amongst   students who want to join the
growing and dynamic retail industry. This course covers relevant areas of retail store
operations such as types of stores, store planning- design- layout, retail value chain and
e retailing. It also covers soft skills such as effective communication and customer
handling to enable smooth operations in a retail environment at an entry-level position.
The course also comprises modules on customer service, client interaction, sales,
English conversation and work productivity tools. This certification gives the learner
opportunities in retail and customer-service related industries.
• Total cost of this course: Rs. 16,500/- 3. Automobile Service And Management.
This course equips learners with technical knowledge in the field of auto
spares/component sales and services. It also trains them as Auto Advisors/ Consultants
in retail operations such that they understand the technical details and are able to
highlight the benefits of a particular product. This course also includes modules of soft
skills, such as effective communication and customer handling to ensure success in the
job role.
This certification helps to build a career in automobile service and related industries.
Additionally, the learner can choose to become a writer on automobiles with
magazines/newspapers or host programmes on the latest automobile technologies.
* Total cost of this course: Rs. 16,500/-
The classes are held at Keshav Puram Centre, Campus of Open Learning, University of
Delhi and will commence from February, 2012.

Feminist theory is the extension of  feminism into theoretical or  philosophical discourse.  

While generally providing a critique of social relations, much of feminist theory also focuses 

on analyzing  gender inequality and the promotion of  women's rights, interests, and issues.  

Themes explored in feminist theory include  discrimination,  stereotyping,  objectification

(especially  sexual objectification),  oppression, and  patriarchy. Feminist theory is special 

because  it is not an exclusively theoretical enterprise,but is an extension of feminist politics.

Given this context, Women’s Studies and Development Centre, and Institute of

The purpose of this workshop is to introduce the theoretical debate on feminism in a holistic 

manner.The topics covered in this workshop would provide a structured and detailed 

understanding about various  feminist theories. The workshop is going to be comprehensive

will expose the participants to an in-depth understanding of the theoretical debates around
