by the Department of Food Microbiology, CFTRI, Mysore
Eligibility: UG and PG faculty in biological sciences; Researchers who are 
Staff members in Research Institutes/Public funded organizations
Teaching faculty holding regular positions in Colleges/Universities 
and sponsored by the Parent Institutions will be given preference
Course Fee: There is no course fee, but it is a residential programme.

Eligibility: Knowledge of the subject under focus, preferably a basic degree. The medium of presentation and interaction is in English.
Nomination: The application for any of the courses may be forwarded through the Employer, in the case of employees.
Training fee: All courses are residential.The training fee (per participant) includes food and accomodation.

Opportunities of Projects in RRCAT for Students 
RRCAT offers opportunities to the students pursuing degree in science and engineering from recognized institutions in India for carrying out project work towards partial fulfillment of their degree. Presently projects are offered to students pursuing the following degrees:
  1. M.Sc. and M.Phil. in:
    Physics, Chemistry, Electronics, Computer Science, Biochemistry, Biophysics and Life Science.
  2. B.E., B.Tech., M.E. and M.Tech. in:
    Electronics, Electronics and Instrumentations, Electronics and Communications, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Metallurgical Engineering and Opto-Electronics.
This scheme has no prescribed training programme/ curriculum. Each selected student has to carry out the project individually under the guidance of a Scientist/ Engineer of RRCAT, on all working days.
Eligibility and Minimum Project Duration:
  • M.Sc. students of final year are eligible to apply for a minimum period of six weeks.
  • M.Phil students of final year are eligible to apply for a minimum period of six months.
  • M.E. and M. Tech. students of final year are eligible to apply for a minimum period of six months.
  • B.E. and B. Tech. students who have completed their fifth semester are eligible to apply for a minimum period of six weeks.
Application Procedure:
Interested student has to send his/ her application in the prescribed form, as per the instructions given. Applications complete with ALL the required documents will only be considered. Application for the project work must be accompanied with the Certificate of Bonafide Student issued only by Principal/Head of the Institute. Applications without this form will NOT be considered. Applications sent through e-mail will not be accepted.
Selection criteria are the academic profile of the student and availability of suitable project guide in the area of interest of the student. Number of students selected may vary from year to year. Period for the winter and summer projects will be from 10th December to 9th June and 10th June to 9th December respectively in the calendar year. Last dates for receiving applications for winter and summer projects are 1st October and 1st April respectively in every calendar year.
Only the selected candidates will be informed about their selection, approximately 15 days before the probable date of starting their project work.
Financial Assistance:
Only Post-graduate students selected for project work are eligible for financial assistance, which includes: (i) monthly stipend of Rs. 1000/- for the duration of project work, (ii) reimbursement of "to and fro" second class railway fair, from the place of study to Indore or ordinary bus fare, and (iii) free accommodation in RRCAT Guest House, subject to its availability. Financial Assistance is given provided the student is not getting stipend, scholarship etc. from any other source. This must be certified by the Head of Department/ Institution. The financial assistance is subject to satisfactory performance during the course of project work certified by the project guide.
Please note that accommodation in RRCAT Guest House will not be provided to postgraduate and undergraduate students of local (Indore) academic institutions.

BARC Training School at RRCAT, Indore/Oct.,2011


The BARC Training  School at RRCAT, Indore is meant for orienting the  trainees recruited through Orientation Course for Engineering Graduates and Science Post Graduates (OCES) to take up research and development work in the frontline areas of particle accelerators, lasers, cryogenics, superconductivity, plasma physics and related high technology fields in various units of the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE). DAE has comprehensive R & D programs in these areas in its various R & D units.  The training is provided in electrical, electronics & physics disciplines at  RRCAT, Indore.

About the Orientation Course:
  • The training is of one year duration.
  • The course is residential and trainees stay at the training school hostel of RRCAT, Indore. The hostel has a mess, computer centre with broad band facility, a library and various indoor-outdoor games.
  • The course comprises of lectures, seminars and laboratory work.
  • During the training programme, visits are arranged for various DAE units e.g. BARC, TIFR, VECC etc.
  • During the training period, the trainees are paid a monthly stipend of Rs.20,000/- and one time book allowance of Rs.5, 000/- .
  • On successful completion of the orientation course the trainees are appointed in the grade Scientific Officer (C) in the pay band 15600-39100 with a grade pay of Rs.5400. Appointment will be at the beginning of the pay scale with OCES trainees getting two or three increments depending on their performance during the OCES programme. Emoluments (with three increments) at the time of joining including Dearness Allowance at the present rate will be approximately Rs. 24000. In addition, other Allowances are also payable such as House Rent, Transport and Professional Update Allowances, & Leave Travel Concession. A comprehensive Contributory Health Service Scheme for employees and their dependent family members is also available
  • The trainees are posted at one of the following  centers of DAE:
    1. Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) Mumbai
    2. Raja Ramanna Centre for Advanced Technology(RRCAT) Indore
    3. Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR) Kalpakkam
    4. Variable Energy Cyclotron Centre (VECC) Calcutta
  • Trainees are under contractual obligation to serve the Department for a minimum period of 3 years after successful completion of the course.
  • While in service, there are good opportunities to pursue higher studies leading to M.Tech./Ph.D. degrees. Successful completion of course work at the Training School will entitle trainees to Post-Graduate Diploma of Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI), a Deemed University. This could also earn them credits towards MTech/MPhil/PhD programmes of HBNI provided their performance is above a specified threshold.

Applications are invited from research scholars, post-docs, young faculty members and scientists 
of Indian Universities / Research Institutions for the Visiting Fellowship throughout the year to 
conduct advanced research in Biological Sciences.    
   
Fellowships are provided to the selected candidates for furtherance of their research and research 
capabilities for carrying out collaborative research or utilizing facilities not available in their own   
institutions. These fellowships will be given for a minimum period of one month to a maximum 
of 3 months to conduct research in the Networking Resource Centre in Biological Sciences, 
School of Biological Sciences, Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai.  
The fellowship is Rs.5000/- per month, which can  be availed in addition to the scholar’s / 
scientist's own fellowship / salary from their parent institution. The candidate is also eligible for 
Travel allowances as per our university regulations.  
Application & Selection Procedure: Application can be downloaded from the official website

outline of their plan of work along with their bio-data highlighting their achievements. 
Candidates should submit two sets of application on the prescribed  format and forwarded
