Since the research in atomic physics has started from a fundamental level many decades back, the complexity in this field has become challenging both theoretically and experimentally. Due to rapid advent of the accelerator and ion-source technology, varieties of atomic collision phenomena can now be addressed. They not only play a complementary role to electron and photon collisions but also take the atomic collision physics far beyond. There are several highly charged ion (HCI) sources and accelerators which have been installed in different labs (TIFR, IUAC, VECC, IoP etc.) across the country including a new ECR-based low energy HCI-accelerator in TIFR. The research on HCI collisions finds lot of application in other related fields, such as, laser physics, biophysics, cluster physics, astrophysics and plasma physics.
The tentative list of topics to be covered in the workshop,
Collision between ions and atoms.
Interaction of atoms with electrons and photons.
Electronic charge transfer, ionization and excitation.
Interaction of highly charged ions (HCI) with solids,surfaces, clusters & biomolecules.
Techniques of ion beam guiding and beam modification.
Basics of HCI sources.
Ion storage rings and ion traps.
Advanced experimental and theoretical techniques in related fields.
Participation in this workshop is mainly by invitation.
