to host National Seminar on Scenario of
Women in Agriculture and Future
Projections at Hisar, on February 16-17,
2012.
About the Seminar
Women are responsible for half of
the world’s food production and have a
prominent role in agriculture at all levels
including the main crop production,
livestock production, horticulture, post
harvest operations, agro/ social forestry,
fisheries, etc. In spite of her major
contribution in agriculture and allied
activities, women are being discriminated
in all fields of agriculture and family life.
The empowerment of the women was
implicit in the preamble of the Indian
constitution with the promise to secure
justice, social, economic and political
equality of status and opportunity; and
assuring dignity of the individual.
Empowerment of women and gender
equality has been recognized globally as a
key element to achieve progress in all
areas. India envisions a future in which
Indian women are independent and self
reliant. In various national policies and
developmental programmes, emphasis has
shifted from developmental issues for
welfare of women to adopting a holistic
approach for empowerment of women in

Five Year Plan.In spite of all these
efforts the status of women has not
improved, so there is need to empower
women for making them self reliant and
confident. The strategies based on these
findings would be immensely helpful to the
development planners, policy makers,
practitioners, researchers, scholars in
general and those involved in women
oriented programmes in particular to plan
the policy and programmes accordingly.
Sub Themes of the Seminar
Welcome to Haryana
Haryana is a landlocked state in northern
India, surrounded by Punjab and Himachal
Pradesh to the north and Rajasthan to the
west and south. It is one of the most
agrarian states in India covered with
greenery all around. The state is famous for
wheat and milk production. It is also the
first state in India to have electrified all its
towns and villages. Hisar is an important
district of Haryana, situated at a distance
166 km west of Delhi on the NH - 10
(National Highway- 10). The city of Hisar
was founded by a Muslim ruler, Firozshah
Tughlaq in 1354 A.D. ‘Hisar’ is an Arabic
word which means ‘Fort’. A fort by the
name of Hisar-e-Firoza was constructed by
Firozsah Tughlaq in the year 1354. Hisar is
famous for its steel industry, therefore
sometimes called as the “Steel City of
Haryana”.

The seminar is organized at I.C. College of
Home Science, CCSHAU, Hisar, Haryana. The
local transport from your stay place to the
seminar venue will be made available.

Accommodation
Accommodation facilities will be made
available in the Faculty House and Farmers
Hostel at the University Campus as per

Guidelines for submission of papers
Faculty, students and professionals from
related disciplines are invited to submit
abstracts for oral and poster presentations.
The abstract must be of 250 words typed in
Times New Roman, font size 12. It should
include the title of the paper, authors,
affiliation and contact details. All papers

Women’s role in changing Society
Women Empowermentare subject to approval of the technical
committee. Authors of accepted papers will
be required to submit three hard copies,
along with a soft copy of their full paper.
