Radio and TV Production Course
Prof. K V Nagaraj, Head, Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, Assam University, Silchar formally inaugurated the new advanced certificate course on Radio and Television Production, launched by KK Handiqui State Open University, on 6thDecember, 2011 at the university campus. Vice Chanclellor of KKHSOU, Prof Srinath Baruah welcomed Prof Nagaraj and forwarded the significance of the course and its future advantages in his address. Dr. Ankuran Dutta, Incharge of Multimedia Unit and Asst. Prof. in Mass Communication gave an introduction to Prof. Nagaraj and the newly launched course. The practical based course will be of six months duration which will comprise of practical working experience in the technically well-equipped multi-media studio and the community radio of KKHSOU.
Dr. M C Sarma, Director (CIQA) expressed his pleasure on having Prof. Nagaraj, a veteran scholar of Mass Communication, who is one of the handful of learned persons in the field. He also said that by introducing a technology based course, KKHSOU is offering a new hope to the aspiring students of the north-eastern region.
Prof Krishnapuram Venugopal Nagaraj expressed his happiness to be present on the occasion. He shared that things in the field of Mass Communication are changing rapidly as witnessed by him in his career of more than 40 years in this field. He was indulged in Journalism from long as his family owned a newspaper house from before independence. He also mentioned about the technological advancements in Norway that he witnessed when he took his students to the country to learn TV production as a part of an exchange programme, funded by the Royal Norwegian government. Prof Nagaraj hoped that the new course launched by KKHSOU succeed in being a ray of hope for the students of the region. He also pointed towards the lagging-behind position of our country in the field of communication technologies, citing that the US has more than 14,000 radio stations while in India, the situation is deplorable. At the end of his speech, he congratulated the Vice Chancellor and staff of KKHSOU for thinking in an innovative way. He wished that the new course would provide the opportunity of getting hands-on-experience to the aspirants with the help of available technicalities.
Registrar of the University, Sri Rajat Baran Mahanta expressed hope that small beginning will end up in a spectacular result and will show a new direction to Television and Radio production in the region. He offered thanks to Prof. Nagaraj for his time and valuable suggestions.
Prof. Nagaraj also deliberated with the students of mass communication of the university and the staff of the multimedia production unit. The students interacted with Prof Nagaraj while he attended to their queries.
