SCHOLARSHIPS & OTHER FINANCIAL AIDS There are three types of grants available for the students of the Post-Graduate Teaching Departments : namely, Free Studentship, grants from the Social Service Guild and grants from the Students Aid Fund. A. FREE STUDENTSHIP : Free-studentship to the extent of 12.5% of the total strength on the rolls of the institution are available in the form of exemption from payment of full tuition fees and half tuition fees. The Chairperson of the Post-Graduate Council invites applications from students other than Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe students on a prescribed form available in the Central Office usually after the admissions are over. The applications are to be supplied to the Heads of the concerned departments who send their recommendations to the Chairperson with a list of students of their respective departments arranged in order of preference for full free-studentship or half free-studentship marked against the names of the students as the studentship case may be. Applicants may be required to appear at an interview before the concerned Head of Departments for the purpose. Merit and poverty are the criteria for the award of free studentship. The Chairperson, Post Graduate Council announces the award of Free Studentships on the recommendations of the respective Heads of Departments. OTHER GRANTS : Each student pays Rs.2.00 to the Students' Aid Fund once a year. The University Grants Commission pays a matching grant equal to the amount collected from the students for this purpose. On receipt of the grant from the University Grant Commission, a Committee specially constituted for the purpose, sanction necessary aids to the deserving applicants. B. SCHOLARSHIPS : The students of the Post-Graduate Departments at VANI VIHAR are eligible for the award of the following Scholarship. 1. NATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP : The National Scholarships are awarded every year by the Government of India through the Director of Public Instruction (HE) ORISSA on the results of B.A., B.Sc. and B.Com., B.Ed. and LL.B. Examination Pass and Honors both. 2. POST-GRADUATE MERIT SCHOLARSHIP : The Post-Graduate Merit Scholarships are awarded by the Director of Public instruction (Higher Education) ORISSA on the result of the Annual B.A., B.Sc. and B.Com. Examinations. 3. GENERAL RESEARCH SCHOLARSHIP : General Research is awarded by the University. A student obtaining at least Second Class in the M.A., M.Sc. or M.Com Examination is eligible for the award of this Scholarship. There is one Scholarship for each of the subjects under the faculties of Arts, Science and Commerce, subject to availability of fund. If a scholar gives up research before the completion of the period of tenability he is liable to refund the amount received by him. 4. RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP : (U.G.C.) There are Senior and Junior Research Fellowships awarded by the University Grants Commission and also by the University. The number of Fellowships to be awarded is determined by the University Grant Commission every year. The value of Junior Research Fellowship is Rs.5000/- per month. Beside, a contingent grant of Rs.5,000/- for Humanities and Social and Science and Rs.7,500/- for Science is given per year for the purchase of contingencies. A student securing at least 55% mark in the M.A., M.Sc. and M.Com Examination is eligible for this fellowship provided further that he must be below 28 years of age. 5. RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP : (C.S.I.R.) The fellowships are awarded by the CSIR. a) Stipend : The stipend payable to JRF, SRF and RA working in the Science Departments of the University are as follows
b) House Rent Allowance (H. RA) and Medical Allowance (MA) : In addition to stipend, the fellow will be entitled to HRA and MA as per rules. |
