CSIR SHYAMA PRASAD MUKHERJEE FELLOWSHIP
To commemorate the birth centenary year (2000) of Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, who was the first Vice-President of CSIR in the Independent India, CSIR has instituted a special fellowship, namely, "DR. SHYAMA PRASAD MUKHERJEE (SPM) FELLOWSHIP" open to toppers of CSIR-UGC JRF (NET) awardees and few other selective categories.
Objective:
To nurture the budding scientific talent and to nourish the objective of pursuit of scientific research.
Scope:
Pursuing Ph.D programme with a special fellowship in CSIR Labs/other specialized R & D institutions/universities.
Nature of Fellowship:
Stipend : Rs.20000/- + HRA per month during the first two years of the fellowship and a Contingency grant of Rs.70000/- p.a. May be raised to Rs.24000/- + HRA per month from third year onwards on the basis of review/satisfactory progress. May be reverted to JRF (NET), if performance is not found satisfactory.
Duration: Initially for 2 years. Extendable as per normal rules for CSIR JRF (NET) Programmes; maximum up to 5 years.

Eligibility:
Following candidates in Chemical, Earth, Life, Maths and Physical sciences will be considered:
- Top 15 Rank CSIR-NET qualified candidates of the preceding year.
- Top 5 GATE score holders in each of the above disciplines, of the current year.
- Top 3 students in each of the above disciplines of integrated MS programme of IISERs, of the current year.
- IIT graduates of current year with CGPA 9.5 & above
- B. Tech students of IIT who have completed 3rd year with 9.5 CGPA & above
Frequency of Selection:
Once a year, normally in the month of July.
Selection Process:
The eligible candidates shall be called for interview by a specially constituted panel of subject-experts. The process is likely to be completed by end of July every year.
Application for SPM Fellowship procedure:
CSIR notifies the names & roll numbers of the eligible candidates on www.csirhrdg.res.in and send letters to attend the interview on the scheduled dates. The application form to be downloaded from the website given above, should be duly filled and submitted to HRDG, CSIR.
Schedule of selection process & date of commencement
The selection process will start after notification of results for December NET and is likely to be completed by end of July every year.
The expected date of commencement of SPM Fellowship will be from 1st August every year.
