On the Academic front the Institute conducts several courses recognised by Medical Council of India.  It offers about 40 disciplines.  NIMS conducts 8 super speciality courses  of  DM and M.Ch.  in the Departments like Cardiology, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Nephrology, Plastic Surgery, Urology and CP&T. Similarly NIMS conducts 6 broad speciality courses of MD, MS and DMRD in the Departments like General Medicine, Pathology, Orthopaedics, Anesthesiology, Radiology and Hospital Administration. College of Nursing started on 2nd October 1991 and 209 students have compileted B.Sc (Nursing) till 2004.   This is recognised by Indian Nursing Council. School of Nursing started in NIMS in the year 1999.   As per the G.O.MS.No.560 MH WF Dt.26-11-1998 suggested to start School of Nursing with intake of 30 students per Batch.  Recognised by Andhra Pradesh Nursing Council vide Lr.No.APNMC/GNT/2700, Dt.26-05-2003, Indian Nursing Council, New Delhi, F.No.18/411/2000-INC-921, Dt.16-05-2002.  Each year students has appear board examination.  After completion of the course student be awarded will "A" grade certificate by Government. Bachelor in Physiotherapy was introduced in Nizam�s institute of medical sciences for the first time in Andhra Pradesh in the year 1996, considering the dire dearth of qualified Physiotherapists in this part of the country. As per the World Health Organization, rehabilitation is included as a part of comprehensive health service delivery model. A large number of patient population afflicted with disorders of joint muscles, bones, brain, nerves and certain cardio pulmonary conditions essentially require a long term physiotherapy support. The aim of this program is to create quality human resources in this field of health care. Master of Physiotherapy was introduced in NIMS in the year 2001.  This course is designed to meet the need of physiotherapists and specialists in Physiotherapy who wish to further develop expertise in aspects of clinical practice specific to  Physiotherapy. The primary objective of this course is to provide students with specialized knowledge and clinical skills necessary for effective and competent Sports Physiotherapy practice, including advance training in Musculo skeletal Physiotherapy research. NIMS  also carries out 13 Fellowship courses and  several observership programmes for the benefit of the students. Specialists and Super Specialists are periodically deputed to obtain further training in their branches from Govt. Medical Colleges and Corporate Hospitals. For the benefit of Paramedical students 13 P.G. Diploma/Diploma Courses are conducted. In addition, several training programmes are conducted for the doctors, nursing staff, paramedical staff and ministerial staff on various Advanced Technological asceptes.  Further several students are  guided in computer based hospital project works as part of fulfillment of the courses of MCA, MBA and M.Sc (Computers).     DEGREES AWARDED So far NIMS has awarded 149 Super speciality PG Degrees and 207 Broad Speciality Degrees, for the students admitted  from 1989 onwards. WORKSHOPS & CONFERENCES Every year NIMS organises about 25 CMEs, 10 Conferences, 20 Guest Lectures and 10 Orations. The Institute has organised about 160 CME Workshops  during 1998-2003.  It has also conducted 38 Free Camps in service of the poor patients in rural areas. Ily research forums, medical audit, mortality and staff clinical meetings. UGC  RECOGNITION : NIMS UNIVERSITY has been included in the list of Universities maintained by the Commission Under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956, Vide memorandum No.F. 9-7/2000(CPP-1) dated: June 17, 2002 as per the recognition NIMS University is eligible to recive CENTRAL ASSISTANCE IN TERMS OF RULES FRAMED UNDER SECTION 12-B OF THE UGC ACT, 1956.

Selection procedure for the all the courses is through entrance examination.

Admissions to all the courses are open only to the candidates belonging to the State of Andhra Pradesh.  Dates mentioned are only tentative. Subject to change with prior notification

Scope The field of physiotherapy has now cast its magnificent rays to make a dawn in the lives of the people with physical ailments. Be it a child or an adult, everyone realises the importance of physiotherapy irrespective of the age; be it a mild discomfort of a little finger or a life threatening condition of the brain. As of now the awareness is broadened and deepened as well, making the scope better. Everyone relies on physical rehabilitation as and when they get aged. We the Physiotherapists pledge to ward off physical ailments from our planet - 'The Earth'. Training The practical training to the students is imparted at state of art Physiotherapy department. Moreover, students also get hands on training under the expert faculty of Physiotherapy. Moreover Students expand their horizons of therapeutic and rehabilitation concepts through involvement in community based rehabilitation programmes and other "outreach" activities. After successful completion of this program, the graduates will be able to: Assess the person afflicted with loco motor disability and provide proper therapy. To design and implement therapeutic programs aimed at increasing the functional independence of the chronic patients afflicted with neurological disorders. To work in collaboration with specialties in advanced areas like hand surgery, plastic reconstruction, orthopedic procedures, cardiac and pulmonary surgeries etc. To identify the area of potentials and undertake the research in them in order to further the knowledge in the field of physiotherapy.

   VI. MASTER OF PHYSIOTHERAPY

Candidate holding a Bachelor degree in Physical Therapy from a recognized University in India or a Foreign University with at least 10 + 2 + 4 years of educational patters and a minimum of 6 months internship.. 2. However, since 4 years course and 6 months Internship was not existing before 1998, candidates who have qualified and completed the internship before 31 December 1998 shall be eligible for this course if they have at least 10 + 2 + 3 years of educational pattern and 6 months of internship. On successful completion of the proposed course, postgraduates will be able to: Utilize a thorough knowledge and understanding of Musculo skeletal Physiotherapy and relevant applied sciences to maintain standards of best practice in prevention and treatment of sports related injuries. Utilize detailed knowledge of relevant aspects of musculoskeletal medicine in prevention and treatment of sports related injuries. Integrate and apply thorough knowledge and understanding of applied anatomy, Patho bio-mechanics and relevant kinesiology to clinical Physiotherapy practice. Utilize advanced clinical competency and expertise, including clinical reasoning, in assessment and treatment of sports related injuries. Design, implement, evaluate and modify Physiotherapy programs specifically related to prevention and management of sports injuries. Perform detailed and relevant musculoskeletal assessment, which are specific to patients. Demonstrate oral and written communication skills and critical thinking at masters level of competency. Interpret and utilize published literature using analytical and critical approach. Conceptualize and write a research proposal.
